Amateur Flushing Divison

The UFTA is excited to announce the approval of adding an Amateur Flushing Division. Below is the bylaw that has been added.

By Law: Amateur Flushing:
Amateur Flushing Division is open to any dog two (2) year or younger. If the dog turns two (2) before January 1st it will not be eligible for that years amateur qualifying runs. This division is run with one dog and one handler for the fifteen (15) minute time limit, three (3) bird run per dog with highest score for the day being the winner. Exception: more than one hunter may be in the field if the handler is utilizing the Designated Walker or Designated Shooter option. All rules and penalties of the Designated Shooter and Designated Walker apply. This Division only Runs one (1) time.

An Amateur Flushing trial may be held with six (6) dogs or more in a stand-alone trial. An Amateur Flushing Trial with four (4) to five (5) dogs may be run in conjunction with another eight dog or more Open Flushing or Open Pointing trial. Four (4) to five (5) dog Amateur Flushing trials will not earn Dog of the Year or Championship points. These runs will count as qualifying runs only.

Dog of year points will be calculated as outlined in By Laws Article VIII, Section 3 of the UFTA Rule Book. All standard flushing Rules and By Laws apply to this division.

The top three placing dogs in the Amateur Flushing National Championship will receive an automatic invitation to the Open Flushing National Championships.

Amateur Flushing dogs must compete in four (4) Amateur Flushing Trials to qualify for the Amateur Flushing National Championship.

The top Amateur Flushing dog in each state, as determined by DOY points, will receive an automatic invitation into the Open Flushing National Championships.

***2026 UFTA Nationals***
04/06/2025 - 2026 UFTA Nationals will be held at Round Stone Native Seed, 9764 Raider Hollow Road, Upton, KY 42784. February 21st through the 28th. This is a unique opportunity to move to a location with room for several fields and large buildings. The event schedule will be adjusted from past Nationals due to the addition of Amateur Flushing. The board will review and set a schedule during their August meeting. As with all Nationals, event schedules are weather dependent and may change. We look forward to see you at UFTA club trials throughout the year. UFTA qualifying year ends December 21, 2025.
Rule Change Requiring 65% Member Majority
03/30/2025 - 3/28/25 - The Board of Directors has added the following to the Article VII: Rule Changes By-Law: Rule changes voted on by members per this section will require a 65% majority vote to enact a change.
